Mimi Was Here

This is Mimi. Don't be fooled by her angelic face. She's a monster. A gecko-hunting, hyper-active, spastic ball of fur with a kinked-up tail. And she's got a little bit of a belly. Just don't tell her that. She's a bit sensitive.

Oh sure, she's got that cute little mottled look going for her. And the loudest purr on the island of Oahu. It sounds like a broken carburetor. If, of course, I knew what a broken carburetor sounded like....
Sure, she has moments of absolute adorableness that make you forget what a truly horrific monster she is. Until she starts using the litter box as her personal playground and spreads the cat litter (and its unsavory contents) all around the bathroom floor. And then she started the truly baffling habit of actually peeing straight down the drain in our bathtub. I didn't know whether to applaud her, laugh or cry in frustration.

Our poor Suyom (who I've taken to calling Su-ey) was none too happy when this little bundle of fur came to stay with us only a few days after we took Suyom in. I'd promised Mimi's mother months ago that we'd cat-sit for her little kitten while she was away during the month of March and I wasn't about to refuse her now that we had a new cat of our own.

And while Mimi was an....interesting addition to our home (which now has a significantly lowered gecko population), I was a little bit relieved to see her go this week. Suyom has had enough stress already without a kitten to deal with. She doesn't know that a move to South Korea lies in her future. I bet she'll love us for that.

And though I'm glad to be down to just one cat again, I can't help miss Mimi just a little.

I mean, c'mon! Who doesn't love a little kitty face like that?

Except for the geckos, of course.

Let's play a game...

Let's play a game called....guess how many geckos are on my wall.

Can you see all of them? The live in the air conditioner. One likes to hang out in the light above the kitchen sink. Sometimes, when we come home after being gone awhile, the geckos will come out of their hiding places to party.

There were four of them the night we came home and I grabbed the camera to snap this picture. One of them ran away. One is hiding underneath the curtain. I don't think you can really see him.

See? Total party animal.

Just another perks of living in Hawaii. All those free geckos.
