My Little Pony Family

Since the general make-up of our family skews female, we are pretty big fans of the newest iteration of My Little Pony. (But let's be honest, My Little Pony is not exclusive girl material. It's fun for the whole family.) We've watched every season available on Netflix multiple times over and we've had multiple discussions about who resembles which character. The "mane six" ponies--Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash--are distinct and delightful in their own way with their own share of faults and foibles with character growth and arcs. So just for fun, here's how we think our family breaks down, pony-wise.

David - Rarity
Now this may seem counter-intuitive since Rarity is the most feminine of all the ponies, concerned with fashion, make-up, and what's "hot." She's a fashion designer and a socialite of a sorts--all things which David is not even though he does have a respect for fashion that most men do not. But David does share many qualities with Rarity--they are both driven to succeed, are innately ambitious, and unceasingly generous with their time and talents. Rarity will drop everything to help her friends as will David.

Liz - Twilight Sparkle
This should come as no surprise since Twilight and I are both bookish and often more interested in experiencing new things through books rather than personal interactions and adventures. We take education very seriously but also want to build strong and lasting relationships.

Zara - Pinkie Pie
Zara tries to deny it sometimes but she is 100% Pinkie Pie. She is fun and freewheeling and loves pink and parties and having fun and being surrounded by friends. But she is also keenly attuned to her friend's and family's feelings and tries hard to make them feel better when they are down,

Adelaide - Rainbow Dash
The jury was out for a little while on Adelaide--she could have been an Applejack too--but I think we can now safely say that Adelaide most resembles the tomboyish Rainbow Dash who dreams of being the fastest pegasus in the sky. Adelaide loves her dresses but she is really a no-frills kinda girl who likes telling it like it is and has no problem expressing herself--especially her cranky self. She is also pretty fearless.

Benjamin - Fluttershy
Of course the only two ponies left are Fluttershy and Applejack. Is he a Fluttershy, shy and sweet and a lover of animals and nature? Or practical, loyal, hardworking Applejack? I can see a bit of both but right now, I'd lean more towards Fluttershy. At times that boy is downright beautific with an angelic smile and shy connection to the world around him. But he is intrigued by animals and the outdoors and has a particularly strong response to music.

So if you watch My Little Pony, which pony do you think you are? I'm curious.
